Whale Watching on the South Coast of Ecuador

June 16, 2016

June through October is exciting on the coast for a couple reasons.

Yes it is officially considered 'low season' however it is the time of year when we Coasties finally get a bit of a relief from the heat and sun.

This is also the time of year that the humpback whales make their way through the area!

There are various ways to view them, from look out points, from your front window if you are in an ocean view location or up close and personal on the water.

There are numerous tour styles and cost to choose from.  Smaller wooden structures, large and luxurious sailboats or even tour guide yacht settings.

This pic was taken on a group tour in a small wooden boat.  The whale was so close, I had to be careful that my camera did not get splashed with water while it jumped and danced.  It was so active, I simply pointed my camera towards the water and continued to click and hoping for the best.

This amazing photo was one of the scenes captured.

The video was taken on a larger tour but a beautiful sailboat named Music.  The owner is Belgian and docks his boat at the yacht club in La Libertad EC.

I love the sailboat tours best; you do not have the sound of motors and it is simply you, the water and the dance the whales perform.

If you want to visit Ecuador but are worried about heat and sun, or you simply want to take advantage of the cheaper prices offered during 'low season' , then you need to fit in a trip of a lifetime and go watch the whales dance.
