You either love 'em or you hate 'em.
I am talking about plantains.
It is clearly a staple in Ecuadorian kitchens.
Those little squished down fried plantains on the side of the plate in many plato tipico de Ecuador called patacones, or the yummy breakfast ball of mashed plantain called Bolon to name just 2.
If you shop outside the supermarkets you can't help but notice all the ramas of plantains for sale everywhere you look.
I started to do some research and now I understand why; they are not only inexpensive, they are pretty nutritious as well.
The ramas in this photo are for sale for $2 or $3 at the Mercado in La Libertad; depending on the size.
That is a lot of plantains which can feed a family inexpensively.
